Residential Appliances in Diverse California Communities: Emission, Exposure, and Health Impacts of Toxic Air Contaminants

Impact of Gas Appliances on IAQ and Health

ccac-divider

RESPECT is funded by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and is a collaboration with UCLA. This study will answer key questions about indoor air quality through an EJ lens. What are the toxic air contaminant (TAC) emissions from gas heating and cooking appliances? How do these TACs contribute to indoor air quality? What are the disparities in exposure and health impacts of TAC emissions in disadvantaged communities? To answer these questions, UCLA is partnering with CCAC to 1) identify key residential gas appliances of concern, 2) examine TAC emissions from gas appliances in homes, including gas leaks and combustion exhaust, and 3) evaluate exposure and health impact disparities across differing communities.
